USAID/PPMG Supports Launch of Four New Businesses Owned by Women in Čapljina

IMG 8850USAID’s Marginalized Populations Support Activity, in cooperation with the City of Čapljina secured 40,000 BAM for supporting the launch and development of businesses owned by marginalized women. Today, grant agreements were signed with 4 beneficiaries to support them in starting their own businesses.

The signing ceremony was attended by the beneficiaries, representatives of USAID’s Marginalized Populations Support Activity, and Mr. Smiljan Vidić, Mayor of the City of Čapljina.

These business cover a wide range of services, from a pet groomer and physical therapy to a beauty salon.

"I’m planning to open a pet grooming salon, because there are no registered pet salons in Čapljina or the rest of the Canton. This is something I always wanted to do, but I was never able to afford it.  Thanks to the support of the City of Čapljina and USAID, I can make my dreams come true”, said Maja Pažin, future entrepreneur who said that this means she will finally not be unemployed anymore. Maja is planning to expand her business model to include a pet hostel, and hopes to create jobs others too.

This support is intended for businesses owned by women with disabilities, mothers of persons with disabilities, women from rural areas, victims of violence and unemployed young women.

The funds are awarded through the Fund for Supporting Businesses Owned by Marginalized Women which was founded in the beginning of 2017, and has thus far supported over 150 businesses. The support provided by the Fund resulted in the launch of sustainable businesses that continue to grow, improving many household budgets and providing new jobs.

Creating the Fund, with joint forces of USAID/PPMG and partners, provided opportunities for sustainable development of entrepreneurship of marginalized women, by encouraging self-employment, improving and facilitating their participation in entrepreneurship, and creating new jobs.
