“My business idea is focused on organic food and bringing free-range chickens on the market. My products will be chicken eggs and chicken feed, and I’m aiming to make it all organic. I’m planning on expanding my business and hiring more people”, said Mirsada Mrkonja, future entrepreneur. She added that she wants students from primary and secondary schools to have an organic farm in their town they can visit.

The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Edin Hozan, Mayor of Jajce Municipality, representatives of USAID’s Marginalized Populations Support Activity and the future business owners. The business plans range from IT, tourism and the service industry to textile manufacturing.

“I’d like to start by thanking USAID and the Marginalized Populations Support Activity for their support and participation in forming the Entrepreneurial Fund. The municipal administration implements similar projects intended to support the local population in developing businesses. Congratulations to all the grantees on your courage and determination, and thank you for your business ideas that will soon be up and running and contributing to the development of our community. I wish you luck in starting and growing your businesses, and I’m looking forward to telling everyone about our new successful business owners”, said the Mayor of Jajce Municipality, Mr. Edin Hozan.

This support is intended for businesses owned by women with disabilities, mothers of persons with disabilities, women from rural areas, victims of violence and unemployed young women.

The funds are awarded through the Fund for Supporting Businesses Owned by Marginalized Women which was founded in the beginning of 2017, and has thus far supported over 200 businesses. The support provided by the Fund resulted in the launch of sustainable businesses that continue to grow, improving many household budgets and providing new jobs.

Creating the Fund, with joint forces of USAID/PPMG and partners, provided opportunities for sustainable development of entrepreneurship of marginalized women, by encouraging self-employment, improving and facilitating their participation in entrepreneurship, and creating new jobs.
